The One Where Everyone Talks About AI (Responsibly)

AI is everywhere in education but how do we make sure it’s being used intentionally, ethically, and in ways that actually support learning?

In this session, hear from two institutions taking practical approaches to building AI literacy and responsible AI use across the student and faculty experience.

Presentation 1

Making AI a Decision, Not a Default

Wichita State University is embracing AI literacy at all levels of the curriculum, with the understanding that a big part of AI literacy is learning when AI models support or undermine learning. This session will explain how WSU uses two quick decision tree widgets to support students and faculty as they decide whether and how to use AI with assignments.

Carolyn Speer, PhD, Director of the Office of Instructional Resources and Rachel Bastian, MLIS, Instructional Design Lead. Wichita State University

Teaching Ethical Use of AI Requires Use of AI

It is necessary to lean into AI to appropriately learn about the ethical use of AI. At University of Phoenix, we have taken a three-prong approach to accomplish this by embedding AI into academic programs, using AI to enhance the learning experience, and leveraging AI to elevate the student experience. By surrounding students with support and providing access to AI tools in practical ways we have been able to drive greater awareness with these tools that drives practical and ethical use.
