Okay, this is a bit of a weird query about something weird that is going on.
We've had an uptick in failed assignments being loaded into Blackboard. That is, we've got multiple examples of students trying to submit assignments which register as being attempted but do not arrive in a readable form.
When we check these files, they show as being 0kb when a blank document straight of Word has a minimum size of 11kb and some of the submitted files have no metadata.
We're running 9.1 experience in the Ultra base navigation in the SAAS environment.
Anyone encountered this? Any solutions?
Yes. I believe it is an illegal character in the file name. Can you get one of the file names? I've copied some information from https://blackboard.secure.force.com/btbb_articleview?id=kAC700000000038 about file handling in Blackboard. If you have access to Behind Blackboard, I would look through the list of issues because I think there are a couple.
Blackboard supports the full Unicode characterset throughout its application since release 7.0; however, there are some limitations for filenames involving characters with special meanings in URLs, in HTML, or on some filesystems, such as the pound(#)/number(0-9)/hash/lattice/sharp symbol, angled brackets i.e. {} [] <> (), percent sign(%), quotes("), apostrophes('), slashes(/), colons(; :), exclamation(!) and question marks (?) and so on. Everyone should avoid those for file naming as a matter of habit; they are simply not safe for sharing, even if they can be used on your computer.
