This thread is for introductions - who are you all?
- What's your name?
- What's your institution and your role there?
- What do you find exciting when it comes to Blackboard and use of technology in teaching in higher education?
Hi, Christer Lässman here. I work as ICT-Systemadmin at Örebro University. I do work a lot with Blackboard, Kaltura and Zoom. I work mostly with configuration and problems. I have been working with Blackboard since 2011, Kaltura 2015 and Zoom since 2018.
We have gone from WebCT to Blackboard self hosted, to Blackboard managed hosting and finally to Blackboard SAAS.
The other products I think will help a lot is Collaborate and Ally (if we will get it!). We will also transform from Blackboard Classic to Blackboard Ultra the coming year(s).
On a personal level I play some bass and have two Swedish Vallhounds.
This is the band! (I don´t think our singer likes my Photoshop experiment)
Joacim Svensson here, working as Business Solution Manager at Dalarna university. I've stationed in the university's Next Generation Learning Center, which pretty much is the equivalent of the ICT department at most universities, with the addition that we are also in charge of the pedagogical training of our teachers (högskolepedagogik).
I've been working at the university since 2010 and was in charge of the tender process leading up the us signing with Blackboard in december 2016.
I'm looking forward to seeing if Ultra can gain some more traction and if we will ever see a development of the way grades are handled in Blackboard so it could better support the scandinavian teaching tradition.
When I'm not working I'm probably at home with my daughter (born in february) or out on the golf course.

Hi, I´m Maria Boström, I work as system administrator for Learn and also as ICT-pedagogue at Högskolan Dalarna. I´ve worked here since 2011, and with Blackboard since 2017. We have a SaaS-solution with base navigation in Ultra, but most of our courses are still in Original design. One of our programs has now switched to Ultra, and we can see both pros and cons with the new design. Next step for us is to integrate Kaltura and Zoom into Learn. Looking forward to that.
When I´m not working, I love to travel. I was looking for a photo of myself somewhere, but recognized I´m always behind the camera, so I have to pick a photo when I´m in action at work instead! :-)
I'm Marit, and I work as the Business Solution Manager for the virtual learning environment at NTNU (in Norway). That's Blackboard, and all the other types of systems we plug into it. I've worked here since 2015 when I joined the project to implement Blackboard Learn. We're on Managed hosting but moving to SaaS over the new year, and are looking forward to speedy updates from then on
What I find most exciting about Bb and using technology in teaching is their potential to connect students and teachers for collaboration and discussions even in courses where there are a lot of students participating, and in different locations. The technology is getting there, and it's interesting to see what we can do with it.
When I'm not working, I'm organizing LAN parties or cross-stitching weird stuff.
Well my name is Shane Hunt and I work for GoSignMeUp - we make registration software that integrates with Blackboard. My background is in graphics and design, so I get to make pretty pictures for a living! Mostly buttons - like 25 years of buttons (for user interfaces), lolI'm in my fifties now so its been interesting to watch things go from literal pencil and paper to online learning management systems - what a great improvement! Automation and technology have really made distance learning possible, and it keeps improving. Now things like video are commonplace in the learning experience, and back in my day we had to sit in the classroom and endure film strips! Interesting to see how tech evolves and how it impacts learning. Things have come a long way from #2 pencils and ScanTrons! When I'm not making buttons, I like to ride motorcycles and jet skis. I love being outside!
Hey everyone! My name is Stefan Karlsson and I am an academic developer, with a focus on digital learning, at the Centre for Academic Development at Örebro University. Right now most of my work is about the educational implementation of Blackboard Ultra at our university. Other assignments include planning and teaching in our internal "higher education"-courses and pedagogical support for teachers in general.
I really like the look and the new features in the new Blackboard Ultra and look forward to this system being fully developed soon.
When I'm not at work, I spend most of my time with my family. I am an athletics coach for children and enjoy long distance running and traveling with my family.
Hi,My name is Marie Andersson, Orebro University.I´ve been working at the university since 2002 in several different roles; lecturer, IT-technichian, IT- coordinator, systemadministrator and currently as an ICT-pedagogue.During the last two years I´ve spent most of my time in tender processes; first a system for digital examinations and last year for a LMS. After moving from MH to SaaS a couple of months ago, the implementation of Ultra is my main focus now.....fun, but a bit of a challenge....
Localization is something that engages me, not only the language/ translations, but f ex the way grades/grading is handled in the system.
My name is Henrika Florén and I work at Dalarna University (DU) as an ICT instructor/pedagogue, with a specific focus on Learn and anti-plagiarism tools. I've been with DU for two years and have a background in teaching and translating. On a personal note I spend as much time as I can with my family, I like to read, exercise and I'm a research student at UCL in London. One of the things I'll be focusing on in the Blackboard environment is accessibility.
