I noticed, after the semester has started and courses are already running, that a URL in the menu is broken. Is there a way to update all menus of running courses or would it have to be completed manually in each course?
Tif, I believe you have to make the changes manually in each course. We are going through this right now. If you find out differently that would be great!
There's no built-in way to make a mass update to existing content like this, but there may be an option using the REST API. How big an issue is this? How many courses?
I would say close to 1000...
Are you using Original View? Is the issue with a URL that is a part of the default Course Menu for all courses? Will updating the admin panel's Course Settings > Course Menu and Structures > Create Default Menu update these links for current courses or just new ones?
Sorry--I've just added lots of additional questions and few answers.
Anastasia, Changes to the default menu will only show up in new courses.
Thank you for the response but Jeff Kelley is right, that was only changing things in the new courses. It is a URL for all courses.
If you are self-hosted you can manipulate the database to update the URL. Check the HREF field in the COURSE_TOC table. Caveat emptor.
Unfortunately, we are SaaS hosted. I think the only option would be to find do a redirect on the actual broken URL site to the correct site. Thank you for your help!
There should be a way to upload/change existing course menu in all courses with behind-the-scenes Bb help. I believe we had an issue like this and Bb helped us with it, but was years ago when we were self-hosted. Can't recall the details though.
Plus we had a course tool that added a course menu item/link. So that company was able to create menu items in existing courses, not just new courses. So it can be done if you want to pursue it, but may not be worth the hassle if you can find a workaround.
Thank you to all that replied. We decided to "band-aid" the situation by doing a redirect on the page. Hopefully, it will get us through this semester and won't be an issue going forward.
