Looking for institutions who have implemented procedures to move data from the SaaS Open Database (DDA/PostgreSQL) environment to an Oracle based warehouse/reporting database.
What method(s) do you use to transfer?
It's not exactly warehousing/reporting, but we have an Oracle-based integration server that runs some student-records-related processes using local copies of the DDA/PostgreSQL data from Blackboard.
We just use a Python script that gets fired off by a cron job once a day and selects data from about eight PostgreSQL tables, then puts them into local Oracle equivalents. It takes about a minute or two total, even with some of the larger tables like course_main and course_users.
It's a little crude--it doesn't do any diffs or anything, and just truncates the tables and re-fills them--but it does the job we need it to. It could be modified pretty easily for more complex operations, though. The Python libraries I use are psycopg2 and cx_Oracle, if you're interested.
Has anyone tried this with Oracle HS (Heterogeneous Services)?
