Greetings!

I have been asked a question by one of our faculty, and am not sure if this is something that the Grade Center can be used to calculate. The question (and examples) are below:

"I have 3 exams in my "Intro to music" class that are worth 50% of the total grade. However, the amount that these individual exams are worth within that 50% is contingent on how well the student actually did on the exams themselves, as the exam where the student received the lowest score will be worth 10% in proportion, with the two highest exam totals being worth 20% each. This is simple enough to figure out by hand for each student to determine which exam is worth what, but is it possible to be calculated by Blackboard?"

Example:

STUDENT A gets 50 in Exam 1, 70 for Exam 2, and 90 for Exam 3.

Student A’s EXAM grade would be calculated as Exam 1 = 10% (5 points), Exam 2 = 20% (14 points), Exam 3 = 20% (18 points) **= 37 points is 50% of their overall grade; so far they have a 74%.**

STUDENT B gets 100 in Exam 1, 60 for Exam 2, and 84 for Exam 3.

Student B’s EXAM grade would be calculated as Exam 1 = 20% (20 points), Exam 2 = 10% (6 points), Exam 3 = 20% (16.8 points) **= 42.8 points is 50% of their overall grade; so far they have an 85.6%.**

STUDENT C gets 90 in Exam 1, 90 for Exam 2, and 68 for Exam 3.

Student C’s EXAM grade would be calculated as Exam 1 = 20% (18 points), Exam 2 = 20% (18 points), Exam 3 = 10% (6.8 points) **= 42.8 points is 50% of their overall grade; so far they also have an 85.6%.**

Any idea how this could be automatically calculated within a weighted column would be greatly appreciated!

If you assign all three to a category, you can add the columns to the weighted total and then count them again by adding the category to the calculation.

Since this totals 50% of the grade, in the weighted calculation, add each of the three tests individually at 10% a piece, then add the category containing the three tests at 20% with it set to drop the lowest 1 grade from the category. This will result in the highest two test grades counting as 20% each with the lowest only counting once via it's individual column.
