Why is the Calculated Formula question type missing the icons to add image in the question textbox?
This is a known issue: https://blackboard.secure.force.com/btbb_articleview?id=kA339000000Cfp4
If you have not already, please consider opening a new support case so it can be linked to the issue.
I don't know why it is different than the rest. You can add an image but there are a number of steps you need to do.
1. Upload the image into the content collection.
2. Go to the image just uploaded to the content collection and select "360 View".
3. Copy the Permanent URL.
4. Go to the calculated Formual Question and right click in the Question Text where you want the image placed.
5. Select "image"
6. Past the Permanent URL into the field "Image URL"
If you have the image hosted on another site you could use that URL instead.
This problem has existed before with other questions types. I think the bad code just moves around. My work around steps are slightly different from yours, but just as painful so it really doesn't matter.
Derek Blair Hi Derek. Just seen your suggested work-around. Yes this'll work but how many users can be bothered to follow a 6 step process when embedding images is so simple in other apps? This is a typical geek hack that again shows how out of line a lot of Blackboard's functionality is with the reality of teacher/lecturer workload. So many features within Blackboard are time-consuming and tricky to master or apply. I'm increasingly seeing a disconnect between what we're being given as users and what we want. I would imagine that Eileen Lee feels the same?
Agree with you Andy,
The lecturers would not want a troublesome workaround, it just gives them a bad user experience.
Especially since this issue was reported since March 2016, why is there not a fix till even now.
Makes you wonder if the programmers who fix this stuff are actually receiving these messages?
Andy, I agree with you. When instructors ask for help with Blackboard and apologize for not knowing the answer, I let them know that Blackboard is not their passion, their subject is. Blackboard is a tool such as a pencil and it needs to work. Since Technology is my passion these work arounds are not as bad for me but I don't think it should be left like this. Blackboard can and does so much but lots of things are in places that don't make sense for an instructor. I can see why people like other LMSs because it looks better. May not function better but.....
I detest being forced to add a mashup instead of an image from my content collection! Flickr recently turned all my transparent pixels black, making the (of course) black text on my geometry and land surveying diagrams unreadable! Quelle nightmare!
