Good afternoon all,

A quick heads up: We've spotted today that there's a new issue with Collaborate Ultra and Chrome v.71. This new version of Chrome stops you from being able to add the "Share Desktop" extension from within a Collaborate session when trying to Share Application from a machine for the first time.

I've raised a ticket about this on BtBb (#04063185) and they've advised the following:

I was able to replicate the issue as you describe it on Chrome v71 as well. I also discussed this with our higher tier support team and they confirm that Chrome has stopped allowing apps (such as Collaborate Ultra) from installing extensions as a security measure. It appears that Chrome v71 is more restrictive.

Our development team are aware of this issue and currently working on a fix, but they have not yet determined when a solution will be available in an upcoming product release.

For now please use the workaround listed in the attached article in order to get the extension installed manually. Alternatively, you may consider using Mozilla Firefox.

The article they reference is this one, if you have BtBb access. If you don't have access, here's what it says:

A Blackboard Collaborate Ultra Chrome "Desktop Sharing" extension is required in order to Application Share using Chrome.

First time users should be prompted to install the extension automatically upon trying to start an Application Share in the Collaborate Ultra session and then restarting the session.

If for some reason the Chrome Desktop Sharing Extension does not install automatically please follow these steps:

  1. Make sure Chrome is up to date: chrome://settings/help
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Open Chrome and download the extension directly from: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/desktop-sharing/ajojghojfapedgfkjmhchgblmjfanggo
  4. Click "Add to Chrome"
  5. Close or Quit Chrome
  6. Open Chrome and check the "Desktop Sharing" extension is installed and "on" in chrome://extensions
  7. Try application sharing in Collaborate Ultra

Additionally, users can search for the extension in the Google Chrome Extensions store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions > check "Extensions" > search for "Blackboard". Click the blue "Add to Chrome" button to add the extension. If the extension is already added in Chrome you will see a blue "Remove from Chrome" button.

Users can also check to see if the extension is already installed and/or enabled in Chrome by going to chrome://extensions

Using an up to date version of the Mozilla Firefox browser, can be used as a quick workaround if the Desktop Sharing extension is not installing.
