Is anyone else frustrated by the lack of Journals and certain question types in Ultra? I use these extensively in my existing courses, and so am not able to change to Ultra. Are there any plans to add these features soon?
I'm okay with the loss of some of the functionality since some of it was redundant and confusing. However, the journal function you mention e.g. graded student reflections, is a big issue. Is there an add-on that might work to this end?
We're in the process of scoping out requirements for our new version of Journals. They'll be coming to the Ultra Course View later this year. Do you have any enhancement requests based off your current use of them in the Original Course View? Are there use cases that we can't support today that you would like to see supported with the new version of Journals?
Maybe the assignment tool in Ultra courses has incorporated the journal functionality, by creating a text field and allowing students an x-number or even unlimited attempts.
Assignments and tests in Ultra are at first view far less defined as such and come across more like interactive course material.
In theory an assignment could hereby easily be a weekly journal. Or am I missing something elementary?
Thanks Mark, I'll look into the option of setting up some form of assignment. I've not used this on Blackboard before.
Toby White, which question types in particular are you using/missing?
Jeff, I use multiple choice, multiple answer, T/F, matching pairs, ordering and missing word(s). If necessary, I could probably modify some of the question types, although it would be a pain.
Toby thanks for the feed back. At this time, you can create these question types in tests and assignments in the Ultra Course View:
Ordering type is on the product roadmap but does not have a target release date yet.
Ordering type questions are especially useful at our vocational college as we also test procedural knowledge. Hopefully this addition will follow soon.
Possibly the combination type could suffice until then? Combining 1, 2, 3 ... X with the corresponding step?
We are currently still self-hosted, but moving to SaaS in August. While a move to Ultra will be later, I was talking to 2 physics professors about the new interface. Test question types came up. One of the professors uses calculated formulas heavily in his courses. I do not see that listed in the above post. Is that question type going to be available in the future, by chance???
Also, he would like to see a Ranking Tasks type question in tests:
They would both like some type of rule for automatic point deductions:
Any chance that there is something like that on the horizon?? To their way of thinking, if you could enter a rule that would automatically deduct points for late work, then they do not have to go back and manually change grades...time saver, I think.

My preferred use of the journal was to make it private until everyone had submitted and we had gone over the submissions in class. Once we had done that, I made them available to everyone in class. To be honest I don't remember if that was a blog or journal feature but in any case, that is the use case I'm looking to implement. I don't want them to not see each other prior to submitting their own but rather having it remain 'private' until everyone has submitted. Using a particular question type doesn't provide the appropriate workflow.
