Is there a way to see the video of a student who is not speaking? The instructor sees the last 5 to speak. However, I have an instructor who wants to check on people that he thinks may have walked away from the computer. Is there a way to do this?
Currently, the "Video Grid" view in Collaborate Ultra displays the last 5 video thumbnails. There isn't a way to see additional video thumbnails (of other attendee's that are not speaking).
We have on our roadmap in 2019 to consider increasing this number to display additional video thumbnails. The exact number of thumbnails we can display is TBD, but with additional thumbnails, you will be able to see videos for attendees that are not speaking.
And just to confirm, there isn't a way for a Moderator to enable/turn on the video of an Attendee that does not have their video on (this wouldn't be fair to the attendee's privacy).
This is very helpful.
Additionally / as a work around to the big brother approach, you could use chat or private chat feature to request directly confirmation of presence. Or you cancall on the attendee with a question as a more indirect approach.
Similar to Mike's suggestion, you could use the Feedback Tools (see image) to elicit responses periodically. For instance, pause every 5-7 minutes to ask an informal assessment question regarding student understanding. If a student doesn't respond, then you have your answer. Polling works here too.
Alternatively, if you're recording, ask them to respond in the Chat. This can be downloaded later as evidence of attendance and participation.
