My institution uses Moodle, but it does not meet my needs, and I'm hoping that CourseSites can. Is there an easy way to import my course from Moodle?
Hi Ken Masters
You can export your Moodle course as a Common Cartridge package. This will enable you to bring "some" of the content across.
This article describes the limitations around what Moodle supports from an export: IMS Common Cartridge import and export - MoodleDocs
You can import it into an original course in CourseSite by Importing the package: https://help.blackboard.com/Learn/Instructor/Course_Content/Reuse_Content/Export_and_Archive_Courses#cartridge
This will take you so far. Although some items come across well, others do not. The format is intentionally limited to support the widest range of LMS as not all are as feature rich as Blackboard Learn and Moodle.
Once you have imported the content into the original course you can convert it to an Ultra course. For what it is worth, I would seriously consider taking the opportunity to rebuild/redesign the course and present the content using the capabilities in CourseSites. In my experience migrations of content in this way rarely result in a desirable learning experience as they reproduce many of the things you were dissatisfied with previously and fail to take advantage of the benefits of the new solution.
Hope this helps.
Thanks very much for the detailed response and links. (My course is reasonably simple - mostly just files and discussion boards. I won't be using the quiz tool in BB, because, for that I still have to use the institution system. I do, though, use Moodle's "Choice" tool to take class register (rather than my completing a register, the students mark themselves present), so I'm hoping for an equivalent in BB, and I also use Moodle's "Active Quiz" instead of ARS. I'll investigate further.
We can definitely provide a better solution for attendance than the Moodle choice activity. See the help documentation here: https://help.blackboard.com/Learn/Instructor/Grade/Attendance
Moodle's Active Quiz however is a little bit unique in my experience. We don't have anything in CourseSites which would enable you to do something similar I'm afraid.
My best suggestion which could be worth investigating is to see if you can take advantage of Moodle's capabilities as an LTI tool provider (LTI and Moodle - MoodleDocs ) to publish the realtime quiz into CourseSites as an LTI tool (https://help.blackboard.com/Learn/Instructor/Course_Content/Create_Content/Add_Content_From_External_Sources#ultra-add-t… ).
I've not tried this specifically in an Ultra course but it should work in theory assuming your institution is using a recent version of Moodle.
Thanks - unfortunately, from what I see of the documentation, including the video, this attendance tool does not meet my needs. I can have anything from 80-180 students in my class. To take attendance like this, I would lose at least 20 minutes of each class (I call out names, and they respond).
The way I use the choice tool in Moodle is:
-There is only one choice, and it is "Present"
-I teach my class. At any stage during the class, I make the tool visible, and give them 3-4 minutes to access he tool, and select the option.
-Then I hide the tool, and continue teaching.
So anything like a survey or polling tool (but not anonymous) would work. But surveys are not yet in the ultra version.
For the ARS, I'll take a look at the LTI tool - thanks.
Blackboard does have a Blackboard Learn Course Conversion Tool (Article #: 000043025) which is for converting simple content and quizzes from Moodle & D2L but I think they have only made it available for customers as it is in Behind the Blackboard (mostly for admins)? If you log a case with Bb (https://coursesites.edusupportcenter.com) they might give it to you?

Hi Scott Davies Ken Masters
At this time the course conversion tool is only available to Blackboard customers. We do not currently intend to make it available to CourseSites users.
OK, thanks for this information.
