We have recently had a few questions from clients on the paragraph below which is included in the "Client engagement & marketing" section of our Privacy Statement under the heading "Online and interest-based advertising", so I wanted to share our response with the community and clarify that our products do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

"We use third party advertising tools to collect information about your visits to our websites to serve you targeted advertisements based on your browsing history and interests on other websites and online services or on other devices you may use. In some instances, we may share a common account identifier (such as an email address or user ID) with our third-party advertising partners to help identify and contact you across devices. We and our third-party partners use this information to make the advertisements you see online more relevant to your interests, as well as to provide advertising-related services such as reporting, attribution, analytics and market research."

This paragraph (and the rest of the subsection on "Online and interest-based advertising") only applies to our own website presence such as blackboard.com and moodlerooms.com. It does not apply to our products that we provide to institutions and which can be accessed online by the institutions' end users such as Learn, Moodlerooms or Collaborate. Our products do not use advertising or tracking tools/cookies. We will make this clearer in the next iteration of our Privacy Statement.
