Hello. I know in the settings I can enter the session up to 1 hour early before the scheduled session begins. However, I frequently want to set up slides, etc the day before. I cannot find anyway to achieve this. Any ideas??
You can set up your session to open immediately, and close when you wish it to in the future. Enter the session, add your desired documents/images, and leave the session. Then edit the dates (use the ... icon at the right) so that it won't open until you need it to do so.
Thanks for the workaround, Hallie
This is a request I've heard a few times lately. It's on our backlog, and I'll let you guys know if I'm able to work it into our roadmap.
Good news, Anneke! Regarding this part of roadmap design, let me emphasize on another aspect of the use case probably mentioned here:
Teacher wants to prepare the time-consuming tasks in advance, because teacher's arrival in the lecture room should be more just-in-time at lecture begin scheduled. The drawback of the current Ultra capabilities is that if students usually arrivr earlier, they are facing an empty, almost uninteresting "unbranded" surface. This provides no focus for the upcoming lecture, especially if chat, whiteboard-playground and audio are prohibited in the session setting. As a result, students tend to arrive as late as possible, which may cause perturbation during the start of the lecture. This demands for session content, which is shared to students prior teacher's arrival
Collaborate Classic is better serving this use case, as it offers preloaded content including "auto-startup slides" option, where the first slide of a preloaded presentation is shown even if the first student joins the room. This enables the teacher to provide assignment for the time waiting for teacher's arrival
Is early auto-sharing of some preloaded content planned to be included in Collaborate Ultra?
In terms of this use case, I also read other demands like "play music / video to the class" or "welcome messages"
This leads me to a more general approch, which goes beyond the Classic toolset: If session scripting (known as Classic Plan!) joins the roadmap, it would be a big improvement to introduce an "script auto-starter", which executes the first entry of a session script triggered by the first student's arrival. Teacher may individually design the script to load the presentation, start music, provide links in the chat etc. in a way, that just-in-time arrival becomes possible without the disadvantages oulined above.. This auto-starter of the script execution was missed in Collaborate Classic. During the last decade, it turned to be the most demanded feature upgrade of awesome classic Plan! environment by advanced Collaborate teachers, who did learn to take benefit from the use Plan! for productivity improvement and quality assurance.
Anneke, I'm aware that session scripting is one of the bigger blocks for Ultra development, but efforts decrease if scripting is anticipated in the Ultra gear as early as possible. Regarding the fact, that scripting is one of the unique selling points of Collaborate Classic, I have to state, that Blackboard is still claiming the session scripting as a unique key feature of Collaborate, surprisingly advertized since long as a current feature of Collaborate Ultra. For clarification of this message to the educational conferencing market I kindly ask
Is Session Scripting still part of Blackboard's current development roadmap as a planned upcoming feature of Collaborate Ultra ?
Thanks in advance for your valuable statement
