User Activity Overview Report
On its surface, this report seems like it might be helpful for small snapshots of course section usage. Unfortunately, when I started to tie course sections back to instructors, it looked like all faculty were using the LMS. I know this is not the case. I logged a support call with Blackboard to ask how "activity" was defined. It appears that the following types of activity will be logged even if an instructional section is never used.
The “modules” in the list above are on the “My Blackboard” page for all users and may also appear in individual course sections on a module page.
Not much can be done about eliminating option #1, but all other actions could be blocked from adding to course activity counters.
Blackboard has verified that checking grades from the Global Access Menu is recorded as course activity.
Blackboard is still investigating this, but the theory that any access to the course section is being accumulated in the activity log appears to be correct. The underlying design assumption seems to be that any course section created on the system is assumed to be active.
