Anyone can advise on how to disable auto-hiding of Course menu? This auto-hiding of course menu is causing difficulty to our instructors especially finding the invisible icon to expand it.
Yes it would be useful to be able to control this site wide and per person (e.g. it could be under Personalise My Settings).
I was dealing with a query from an instructor who could not see the course menu. They had difficulties viewing text and so had their browser at 250% size. This means that the course menu will always be hidden. Having difficulties viewing meant they could not identify the blue line on the left showing the menu was hidden.
So while it is a very useful feature, particularly when using the mobile app and getting sent to the native view, it would still be useful to disable this site wide and/or per individual where circumstances mean that this feature is more troublesome than beneficial for certain individuals.
I've been also thinking about this. I was picturing it more as a button on the menu's top, which is something everyone see and the place where other menu options are (like opening it in a popup window). Some sort of "lock" that would keep the menu pinned open.
Thanks for this tip. I thought zooming in was causing an instructor's course menu to keep collapsing but I couldn't duplicate it since I was only zooming in a little. Your 250% turned on the lightbulb.
It appears that zooming in of 125% or higher enables auto-hide. 110% or less keeps the menu there.
I am not sure this would help for all instances, but if you change the view option on your browser from actual size to some other option, this seems to trigger the auto-collapse option in Blackboard. So a possible simple fix is to check your view option in your browser. It worked for me.
Well there is an option to do so if you modify the Theme, here are the steps:
Open and modify theme.css and add at the bottom of the file
/*File for modifications and css additions*/
Create mods.css file and add the code below
/*Force Collapse course TOC to non collapsed to resolve screen size collapsing auto limitation bug.*/
This code is for for the 2012 theme. See lower for 2016 theme workaround
Save file then zip and install theme.

Alternatively you may wish to add teh bottom scroll bar back to with the following code.
/*Bottom Scroll bar add*/
Hopes this helps.
