I would like to know your opinion about your personal experiences using the new Bb ultra experience.
We have been using the Blackboard Navigation Experience since the start of Fall 2016. I personally really like it, and so do my students, or so they say publicly in class. We have it set so that on login students and faculty go to the Activity Stream; this works very nicely.
On the other hand, if you are asking about the Ultra Course View, which simplifies the actual in-the-course layout, that is currently nearly unusable. This is my opinion, but I have attempted to use it for three terms; I am the only instructor at my institution who is trying Ultra Course View. In Fall 2016 I switched back to Classic view after less than two weeks. It was so bad that I was willing to rebuild my class in Classic rather than continue subjecting my students to constant "if we were using regular Bb, this would work" excuses.
In our J-Term, I stuck it out, Bb had made some improvements, but it was still a struggle. Same for Spring. I will no longer try to pilot it in my classes until Blackboard makes substantial improvements. Some examples:
- There is no in-course access to course content files.
- Weighted grading in Categories is deficient (e.g. can not drop the lowest/highest scores).
- When viewing the complete gradebook, students are in alphabetic order; when viewing and grading an individual assignment, students are in no discernible order, though the order is stable, so it is based on something invisible.
- Can not rearrange the grade columns.
Thank you for sharing this information, I really appreciate it. The second semester, we have the upgrade and it's really good to know these important issues and be prepared for future improvements.
Did you experience any problem using LTI tools ? or embedding external HTML sources?
No, no trouble there. Web and LTI interfaces cold be added as easily and as surely as they are in Classic. The interface to add them is slightly different, but it is in line with Ultra's somewhat different model for adding content. And, as long as we are talking about it, I think Blackboard is on the right track here as the content building interface is, in general, much easier to use in Ultra; they just need to get further down that track!
Fabulous! thank you for your time and answer my doubts. I really appreciate that!
I have a great day @David
