I'm new to this and want to create a discussion forum that is private for a group of students. Can someone walk me through how to do that? Thanks!
Does these resources help?
Create and Manage Groups | Blackboard Help
Group Discussions | Blackboard Help
You use this by setting up a 'Group' - look for the Users and Groups section in Course Management left menu. Create a group using manual enrol, select the correct names from the participant list. This creates an area with specific resources just for the members of the group, which includes a discussion board.
Those Groups pages will soon have the option to include a Collaborate session per Group!
Oh goodie - I always set one up for each group when I create it. Even on-campus students like it, never mind our distance learners.
Thank you for the responses. I guess I'm trying to figure out if I can even use this system if I am independent with my own business and not connected to a school? So I was wondering if I can create a space on here for an online class I teach that is not affiliated with any school or is blackboard only for use through a school? Thank you!!
Blackboard is a commercial product, but your money is as good as anyone else's! You might want to look at Moodle (which is shareware), but unless you are good with PHP you will probably have to hire help or pay for hosting.
How about setting up your non-school-affiliated course in Course Sites? Free Bb courses--used to be up to 5 courses you could set up, but I haven't used it in a while. www.coursesites.com
