I have used Articulate Storyline and iSpring to create SCORM activities in Bb. The main issue I have is that once a SCORM is uploaded it can't be modified... the whole object needs to be deleted including manually removing the grade centre column, then a new SCORM object uploaded. It's terrible for testing things out, especially if you have a team of people whio need access. I have heard a lot of complaints about Blackboard's SCORM functionality but personally I have never had any problems with it.
Well, it absolutely would be wonderful if an updated SCORM package could overlay an existing, but I can already see issues with that. (If the old one was view only and the new one is intended to score a quiz). I understand not allowing it to be modified - it is an export from a proprietary program to a standardized wrapper. When updating SCORM we cannot delete columns - that removes grade history! Management of versions is a problem for sure.
That is very helpful feedback. Thank you for the input. Just out of curiosity have you found advantages to iSpring over Storyline in the LMS platform?
I have found several advantages in using iSpring. Namely:
The main advantages of Storyline are that it is more customisable, has a basic modular scripting capabilities and there is a great community to assist developing elearning projects.
I should also mention Office Mix which doesn't use SCORM (anymore) but does support LTI. It offers less functionality than iSpring or Storyline but is dead simple to use and free.
I was wondering because we are currently exploring a few options. I use Camtasia right now but iSpring and Storyline 360 are on my list to explore. Accessibility is my biggest concern with all of them. Also, usability something that could be used by instructors independently if they desired to do so. So, I was curious about iSpring because I had read that it was easier to use. It's nice to hear that it has great features and is easy to use, that's a plus. It makes sense that Articulate is more customizable though. These are great points, it's great to hear directly from someone who uses it for content building. Thank you for your assistance.
You mean SCORM? It is a content type.
