Hi All,

Greetings!

When I created calculated formula question for tests, I noticed that the available functions in the answer formula section are very limited. For example, there is no functions to calculate absolute value or factorial. I wonder if blackboard offers any advanced functions for calculated formula or not.

I can meet you half way. I was able to get the absolute value to work both by typing in |x| and using the built in "vertical bars" in the "parentheses" tab of the answer formula menu. However I couldn't get factorial to fly. According to the documentation that Blackboard references in help for the editor, ! should work for factorial. I'm wondering if it doesn't work since the calculated formula define variable screen defaults to minimum and maximum values that that have decimals even though you can set 0 decimal places. Since factorial is defined for non-negative integers, does the possibility of decimals render the function inoperable?

I did notice that there are a load of usable trig and other functions under the "sin" submenu if you click the little arrow in the lower right hand corner. I thought it was amusing that the alt text for sin, cos, arcsin, and arcos was "sinus", "cosinus", etc. I'm not super well versed in math but I've never seen that outside of French.
