In my view Course activity in this report is the time spent in an actual course and non-course is everywhere else. But is there any official guidelines for these 2 from Blackboard?
For every session, the time in a course and outside a course is calculated as follows:
- For every item the user access in his session, the report will compute the time between the first and the last click/action the user does on such item.
- All the accessed, items which belong to single course, add user time in that course.
- The non-course time will be computed as: [session time between login and logout] - [time in courses during that session]
- The average time is calculated as a plain arithmetic mean on all the course/non-course times in the period of time of the report.
The official documentation is here: http://help.blackboard.com/en-us/Learn/9.1_2014_04/Instructor/130_Student_Performance/020_Course_Reports
