I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is in the roadmap to allow CAS authentication for Bb Mobile, Bb Student and Bb Grader?
My institution just migrated over to SaaS, and in the process implemented CAS authentication. I was able to get the Bb Mobile Learn app to work, but am having some difficulties. Basically, the app will now direct the user to our CAS login page, but once the user is logged in, it does not appear that they are inside the app so much as a slightly scaled down web version of the GUI.
I'm curious if you've made any headway since posting your question a few months ago?
If the user is not getting pushed back into the app after a successful CAS or Shibboleth login and instead remain in the browser, there typically needs to be a setting enabled on Bb's end called "Polling". If you create a ticket on Behind the Blackboard, the mobile support team should be able to assist you.
I think I'm having the same issue, trying to use BB grader on Ipad. I have contacted BTBB few month ago and they told me there were an known bug.
As we use the CAS authentication, we have the option "force to web" in the mobile B2 / settings.
BTBB told me it was the bug MLGA-1033 in this page : https://blackboard.secure.force.com/btbb_articleview?id=kA3700000004EQF
Do you think that it is the same issue ? Any ideas on how we can use bb grader in my institution ?
Thank you in advance.
CAS and Shibboleth can be set to work with BBstudent and BB Mobile Learn App. The work is half done by us at support ensuring the correct settings for your environment are set so that you get the functionality to be brought back to the app and ensuring correct landing page for your environment. The other half is done by you. This is only if you are self hosted client. If you are managed hosted we will do most of the work once request help with that.
However, for BB Grader as pointed out it cannot work with CAS/Shibboleth and force to web. There is ,however, a possible workaround should an institution require the working of BB Grader and is willing to implement it. At Mobile support we can create brands and select the authentication for these brands. The instructor accounts should have passwords that are set in the learn environment ( the default login authentication) . Then the new brand will be created by US and when they go to the BB Grader, depending on the name and the search they will be able to login to the environment. It sounds a bit confusing, thus I will try to illustrate with a quick example:
You have Institution A that uses CAS and force to web option in BB Mobile and the BB Student App. You find the Institution by searching for its name Institution A to log in.
Thus, the idea would be to have a separate brand for Institution A , for example Institution A-GraderEntrance and the settings for this brand would be set to native authentication and it will not be forcing the user to the Web Browser. This however, could have the undesired effect of the search providing two results in the end.
So if you search for the institution the search will provide you with options to choose: Institution A and Institution A-GraderEntrance , across all apps.
If you want to explore this workaround and give it a test try please submit a case with us on behind the blackboard, requesting the creation of mobile brand, and we can try it and if you do not like it, the brand can be removed.
Additionally, you should check and follow the thread about our future app, BB Instructor , which will be release in the future and will be aimed at the Instructors and Teacher at institutions.
