Test Auto-Submit at Due Date

Idea created by tovar.julio on Aug 20, 2018

The Auto-Submit feature has been wildly popular at my institution, but there is significant confusion about the role of the Due Date. Currently, Auto-Submit is based entirely on the timer. This allows students to submit a test after the Due Date, provided they have started it before the Availability Date closes.

My suggestion is to add the option to auto-submit at the Due Date, even if the timer is still running.

Test has a 60 minute timer and is due at 11:59 p.m.

Student A begins test at 10:00 p.m., and it auto-submits at 11:00 p.m. (All good here!)

Student B begins test at 11:30 p.m., and it auto-submits at 12:30 a.m. (Past the Due Date)

With the proposed change, Student B would receive a warning that they will not receive the full time allowed by the timer when they begin the exam. Then, the test would auto-submit at 11:59 p.m. (unless they finished it even quicker).
