Users want to select a free-form area and associate a comment with that area.
Yes! And see how much better the crocodoc interface looks in that it shows all annotations clearly. No hovering or clicking required.
Yes...different faculty want to use different types of annotations.
Instructors would like this functionality that they had with Crocodoc.
Please, please, PLEASE...bring back Area Comment. This feature allowed me to comment on individual and multiple paragraphs, as well as on sentences, phrases, and individual words. It's very handy when responding to research paper drafts, since I often need to comment on sentences or phrases (smaller areas) within paragraphs that I also need to comment on (larger areas). The Point comment is fine for polished drafts produced by strong writers -- but not so good for rough drafts produced by average to weak writers (or even stronger writers, when they're working with document genres they're not familiar with). With the Area Comment feature, students can more effectively recognize when presentation issues encompass an entire paragraph, or groups of paragraphs -- not just one very small area. The Area Comment feature SAVED so much time -- easy for me to use, and easy for students to see!
Crocodoc allowed for direct writing on the document which is necessary for mathematics faculty.
The comment box currently available does not allow for comments that require math notation.
This makes it difficult to clearly communicate to students what is incorrect and how to avoid
said error in the future. The current set up for comments is not feasible for math faculty.
