As a course shell evaluator it would be great to have an item total at the bottom of the column organization page for the full grade center. Similar to the users page.
Would the count include columns hidden from the instructor? Hidden from the student? Not included in the grade center calculations? Associated with old content that no longer exists? (when you delete a content item for test, assignment, etc, you can opt to have the grade center column remain.). What would this count tell you? I actually can't see any benefit to knowing there are 78, for example, columns.
When evaluating full grade centers based on total points I often need to point out to instructors that their total point values do not align with their syllabus. It often takes a long time to figure out why the point value is off. Having a syllabus in hand that has a count for assignments, assessments, and discussion questions allows me to know what actual content is included in the course. If the manage column section has a count at the bottom I can immediately know if there are extra columns and how many? It would allow the process of finding the errors so much faster.
Ah, total points. Now I see. Calculated according to how ever they set up their grade center. Ok, now I'm tracking, and it's not a bad idea. I would stipulate that it be tied to the external column. What do you think?
I would agree.
