Can we have the option to export the data Authentication/SIS logs out to csv so it will be easier for us to keep and do audit?
yes, this will be very useful!
In general, all data from the Admin GUI should be exportable.
Specifically, you can download some of this information from your system right now. It won't be nicely formatted, but you can get it.
Login as admin
Go to the System Admin tab
Tools and Utilities, Logs, System logs
Do a search using Contains auth
Click on bb-authentication-log.txt for the most recent data.
Download or open in an app like Notepad.
Our site is managed hosted. For us, this file is refreshed every day. With this specific type of log access, we can see today and yesterday. (Only a week is available from Tools and Utilities, Logs, Authentication).
For SaaS this information is only available to us thru the display.
No way for us to download the file.
Linda Feeney I was told by Blackboard personnel that SIS logs are not available in a single file. Is it?
For managed hosting customers, the only logs that I am aware of that can be downloaded are at System Admin tab, Tools and Utilities, Logs, System logs.
You can go there and search with "Contains sis". This is another file that is very active and resets every day.
These are important suggestions. In the meantime note:
For SaaS, the logs are kept for only 10days, thus it will be easier to let us export and save it rather than asking Blackboard to retrieve the logs from backend which takes more effort and time.
The searchable authentication logs, stored in the database, for all deployment options are limited to 10 days.
The Kibana interface for the system logs in the Sass deployments display the last 30 days. And we're working on extending that.
Hi, when will the extension be ready? And what will be the new limit?
Sorry, I know this makes planning difficult, but we don't have any specifics yet. We are looking into several different options to leverage the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) and AWS technologies to make logs useful and available as long as possible.
Meanwhile BB is exploring ways to extend, possible to implement the exporting feature to us 1st? Thanks.
This will definitely help to track the logs.
A great idea; especially if it would pull the data from all app servers rather than just the one that you are currently logged into.
Reminder - the SIS Log details are available via REST API with Q2 2017 (3200.0.1): LINK
Yes, that would be very useful, and I know that it would help our institution to cut down on the number of support tickets that we put in to BtB if we could diagnose and solve our own problems with efficiency. I'm sure others have the same problem.
