In my online course I have a open discussion board called the "Water Cooler". This board is for student-to-student and student-to-instructor communications. It is not graded. Participation is voluntary. Throughout the semester, I add threads related to currently trending topics that relate to the course content.
As most of who teach online know, it is important to keep content fresh and pique student interest on a regular basis. Unfortunately, just like others who teach online, my schedule is really tight. When I have to add something optional like posting a new Water Cooler thread to my "to do" list, it often slides off the bottom. I would really love to be able to set up new discussion threads to be released on a scheduled basis as I find new topics that might challenge my students.
