The User services do not currently return Institutional Roles. System roles are there, but not institutional ones.
It would be really helpful to have these.
Not sure if this should be a separate idea but the POST action (POST /learn/api/public/v1/users) needs to support institution roles as well.
Good to be clear about this, I'd assumed if they were added, it would be to all of the appropriate user services, so GET, POST and PATCH as well.
I agree that this should be added. Seems like a really obvious field that should have been included from the start. Maybe so obvious that it was overlooked, as I can't see that having the business fax number for a user was more important for REST developers to access than that user's institution role.
Thanks much for posting this idea to the group.
I hope this will be considered as we need this for filtering campuses to pull data into Salesforce or other systems to analyze further.
It is much less useful to have System Role as an options as most faculty and students have none as their role but the IR is far more important for filtering data.
I agree. We are testing now for roll out in 2018 and it would be great to have the Institution Role as we do have different information/modules available to the various institutional roles.
Looking forward to this feature. This is an indispensable addition. Being able to create users through the API without the ability to add institutional roles doesn't make much sense.
We must have institution roles added to the User model so that we can provide a value for institution role when creating a Blackboard user using the REST API.

I agree that it would be very beneficial to access Institutional Roles via the REST API.
I think it is critical to have as we need it for targeting and enrollments if we want to move from the existing SIS Framework interface to this option so I look forward to this being added.
Simply put, not being able to add institution roles makes this function totally impaired.
Would be really nice to see institution roles in the API. Just had to re-work a project to address the fact they're missing.
I will add my vote as well. We are moving to REST API for user management and I am writing a trigger that will take this information from "Job Title" and then transfer it to the correct role in the Users table. IR is based on its own table so I am basically changing what is sent to a number for it to be correct. Shouldn't have to do this but oh well.
Adding my vote too.
These were added in 3300.3.0
