If you are writing a math "calculated formula" question you can only use English (no math equations) with variables.

For instance if you want to ask:

You cannot use the formula editor to do it, instead you would have to writ the question:

What is the square root of [x]?

That kind of works even though it doesn't look good, but what if your question is:

Are you really going to make the question:

What is the cube root of [x] minus the absolute value of [y] raised to the power of 1/3?

So I think we need to find a way for Blackboard to recognize a variable within a Wiris formula.

Let me circle back with them and see if there are additional questions you might be able to help us out with. First, could you give me a sense of how often you and other instructors use this question type? As we build this in Ultra courses, are there pieces you never use?
