For the last week, ECU have experienced issues where media embedded into Blackboard directly (mp4, pdf, ppt, doc) are not streamable or downloadable for many users on Telstra, Optus and iiNet. BtBb are investigating (our ticket is 04267630, opened last Friday) and there are a combination of factors, including the possibility that the Perth-Singapore SEA ME WE 3 deep sea cable being cut is impacting routing. This is having broad impact on our staff and students, and 'find another internet connection' is not an ideal solution for students who might not have such an option.
Mid-week, BtBb advised that other clients were now reporting issues. Are any of you impacted, and if so what have you explored so far? Particularly interested to hear from other Blackboard clients in WA.
One of the most significant submarine cables connecting Australia to Asia and Europe has been cut. The cable's operator told iTnews that the Perth-to-Singapore portion of the SEA-ME-WE 3 cable is out, that no estimated time of repair has yet been determined and that the problem struck between repeaters 345 and 346.
