Instructional Design in the Wild: Creating and Sustaining an Open Blackboard and Accessibility Lab

This presentation discusses the benefits, challenges, considerations, and possibilities of using an open-lab model to encourage use of the Blackboard training services provided by instructional designers and technologists. Using an evidence-based approach to explore a currently running lab developed by instructional designers to address both Blackboard and accessibility challenges, this talk also outlines what works, what doesn’t, what service challenges can be expected, and what the future may have in store. Beyond sharing experiences, the presentation also seeks to stimulate discussion about labs already running and inspire other service-oriented departments to consider the use of Open Labs for their institution.
