For 70 years the University of the West Indies (UWI), has served the Caribbean region by providing tertiary education to its people. Being an innovative, internationally competitive, contemporary university, the UWI offers quality higher education mainly to countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean. The University has expanded to four campuses that serve diverse communities across the Caribbean region: Cave Hill in Barbados, Mona in Jamaica, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago and the Open Campus (our virtual campus with 42 sites in 16 Countries) - all delivering high-quality education, research, and other services. This distributed environment requires innovative teaching and learning. This case study will show how four campuses, all using different web conferencing solutions, collaborated to decide on the use of a single tool. Lessons learned, challenges, opportunities, current status and future direction using Blackboard Collaborate will be explored. How the faculty, students and staff were prepared will also be covered.
