As a long-time system administrator who avoided working with Blackboard databases, for fear of doing damage (and making a whole lot of people mad at me). But recent interest in data analytics at Wentworth Institute of Technology has nudged me into the role of data analyst. What I thought was going to be a daunting task was made easier with OpenDB, the reporting database available to Managed Hosted clients. In the past 18 months, I’ve gained experience with OpenDB both for reporting for various administrative needs as well as course related inquiries. In this presentation, will share the lessons I’ve learned so far, including resources available to help navigate the database, report archives to jumpstart a reporting program, and a few quirks of the Bb database.
