Online Students can become an afterthought for universities with strong on-campus programs. However, these ‘forgotten students’ pay the same cost in tuition, expect the same access to resources and services, and upon graduation, become ambassadors for the program and professionals in the field as do their on-site peers. Beyond course-level engagement, universities must incorporate online students into their ethos; this is more easily achieved through collaboration with on-site students. John F. Kennedy University’s MA Sport Psychology Program uses a blend of strategies to engage their online students: a team-based reward system, social media, Blackboard Organizations and Collaborate with the Ultra experience. These tools engage their online students (60% of their program) with their on-site peers and faculty, and create a vibrant learning environment that fosters a sense of belonging. This presentation will examine the creation of a ‘Fourth Campus’ initiative to ensure online students engage with their on-site colleagues, through the duration of the program and post-graduation.
