The University of Sheffield is now delivering 5% of it's formal examinations via Blackboard Learn, using a robust and scalable process that is fully supported by institutional teams and complies with standard university policy. This, however, wasn't always the case.
From the early days of academic members of staff running 'exams' in WebCT with no support, the university embarked on a pilot with the Faculty of Engineering to bring these assessments under the support of the Technology Enhanced Learning and Examinations Teams. After a successful pilot, and many lessons learned, we rolled the process out across the institution, reviewing every exam period as we went along to refine and improve the process.
This session will chart this journey, looking at how we implemented a process with very little funding, using the standard tools available in Learn, alongside the Respondus LockDown Browser. It will explore some of the problems that arose and how we solved them, and what challenges lay ahead.
