I was interested to join this Webinar - until I found out, that it will happen on ON24 webservice, not on Blackboard's own Collaborate platform.
I now want to learn more, why you decided to host your webinar series on a competitive platform. Which important functionality do you miss on Blackboard Collaborate ?
Thanks in advance for your explanation.
Good morning, Mero ~
Blackboard Collaborate is a virtual classroom solution optimized for Teaching and Learning, not a general-purpose marketing solution. For our marketing webinars we need webinar registration and reporting features which are not part of Collaborate.
Good morning Debbora,
thanks for your explanation. I understand, that the requirements for marketing webinars are different from Blackboard's primary design focus "education".
Are you aware, that there is some market demand to extend the functionality of the new Collaborate Ultra ? Collaborate Ultra evolves monthly by continued agile development. This makes such extensions possible.
I just want to point you to this special enhancement request to make Collaborate Ultra adaptable to marketing webinar requirements
What marketing webinars usually need are Less interactive functions than educational webinars
However, that enhancement request is not exactly focusing what you are missing. Some comments from Collaborate consultant's perspective:
Webinar registration: Should be easy to develop with Collaborate's powerful restAPI.
We use standard integration for Moodle LMS for marketing events too. Any event will be created as a "course". Prospects may join the site after registration, which "self-enroll"s them to the "course". This is quite similar to the look and feel of common webinar platform registration.
Reporting features: I definitly want learn more about the particular reporting features you are needing. Blackboard's strenth in this field is called "Learning analytics". I might be fitting in a similar way to marketing webinar requirements like participant registration.
Why is there a need to re-use Collaborate instead of outsourcing marketing webinars to competitive platforms ?
The business development strategy is simple
Many institutions in the corporate academy market do not become Blackboard Collaborate customers, because they are re-using their usual marketing webinar/ business meeting/IT remote support platform for educational purposes. I know some academies using ON24 as their educational webconferences, because ON24 was contracted for other purposes. Same with the majority of WebEx, Adobe Connect, Cotomeeting contractors, who ignore the absence of dedicated educational features in those business meeting tools. For Blackboard sales (I'm aware of the corporate market in Central Europe), it often seemed to be difficult to sell a second educationally focused webconferencing platforms to the same institution.
Tweak the Blackboard educational webconferencing platform Collaborate to adapt to business meeting/IT remote support. Why not include usability for marketing webinars also? Collaborate Ultra is still perfect for business meetings and evolves activly each month. The API allows it to integrate into arbitrary enviroments.
Running your marketing webinars on a future Blackboard Collaborate platform would be a benchmark for future customers, not to invest in special marketing platforms, but re-use their contracted educational webinar system for marketing purposes too,.
