Make News with Accessibility Awareness: Strategies to Help Faculty Get Started

Recent headlines about ADA lawsuits have drawn attention to issues of accessibility for people with disabilities. This session explores how two different institutions are increasing faculty awareness of the importance of accessibility and helping faculty provide accessible courses and materials for all students through Blackboard, regardless of class format -- face-to-face, hybrid (blended), or fully online. 


The University of Hartford's Faculty Center for Learning Development, Department of Disability Services, and Online Programs have joined forces in a renewed effort to raise awareness and help faculty get started.  At Marshall University, the Design Center is collaborating with faculty from the Department of Special Education and the Office of Disability Services to provide workshops as well as a Blackboard organization with information and resources.


This session will impart the necessity of making content accessible to all users; demonstrate valuable tips on how easy it is to implement in Blackboard; discuss strategies for departments across campus to work collaboratively on faculty outreach; and share pointers on how to get started, so the next headline we see just might be:


"News Flash! Faculty Use Accessibility Strategies to Help All Students Succeed!"
