Elmhurst College is in the middle of a 28-month project to evaluate, choose and implement a new institutional LMS. The college currently has two LMSs: D2L and a self-hosted Blackboard Learn installation. Starting with ten possibilities, through a fully open process, we narrowed the choices to three. These three were then trialed through the Fall of 2015. In February of 2016 we chose the SaaS deployment for Blackboard Learn, which will become active in Summer 2016. In the following 14 months we will roll out the new Ultra experience and convert our D2L courses to Blackboard. Additionally, we will use the opportunity provided by a new core software system to reshape some of our roles and procedures, and to generate an excitement which we hope will leverage greater usage of the LMS. This talk will particularly highlight the open process that we have used throughout the project and the opportunity that new systems can provide.
