Today’s dynamic presentation will highlight an innovative retention and success approach developed by a small academic advising team in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) at Temple University. In an effort to align undergraduate advising with the university’s new Fly in 4 Graduation Partnership, the team developed a comprehensive student support portal through BB Learn. This Blackboard platform afforded timely information-sharing, access to robust student engagement data, and the ability to sustain 4-year academic and career planning for multiple student cohorts. Now supporting 600+ first-year CLA students, the BB Learn portal has already become an empowering tool for students and an efficient solution to the high demand for asynchronous advising. As we move forward, the team hopes to use retention data from recent efforts to inform changes for future CLA cohorts. We also hope to facilitate portal expansion across the university and to continue challenging our collective understanding of Blackboard’s potential beyond the classroom.
