Learning is a lifelong process that in some instances is difficult to demonstrate. Through Mozilla's Open Badge standards, we are able to recognized learning and document the required mastering of skill sets in professional and academic settings. Utilizing tools such as Blackboard's Achievement tool and in-house applications, the Center for Online Learning, Teaching & Technology (COLTT) at UTPA adopted this open standard to issue digital badges for successful completion of traditional and online professional development programs offered for faculty. Programs such as Teaching Online Certification, Quality Online Course Design, and others help prepare faculty to meet quality assurance standards set forth by the institution to ensure students receive quality online instruction. By rewarding users with digital badges, COLTT is able to provide better support that is tailored to individuals based on their skill level and credentials. Through achievements and Open Badges, faculty are able to showcase/document their skills.
