Blackboard learn is essentially a complex database with a fancy front end. But there are times you want to get information that isn't available through the Blackboard Learn GUI. How do you proceed? The trick is to figure out where and how you can access the raw data in a meaningful format. Whether your institution is self or managed hosting, you can get to the database and pull vast quantities of useful data out if you know where to start looking. This session will help you get started with the Blackboard database by going over a handful of example queries and explaining how the University of Miami's Learning Platforms Team has utilized first ASR (a small subset of the full database available to all Managed Hosting Clients) and now OpenDB (full database access) to provide better service to UM?s faculty and students and get more value from our Blackboard system.
