Dr. Catherine Barber

Dr. Catherine Barber, associate professor of education, is among the winners of the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program for her fall 2016 course, Educational Research and Scholarly Writing. It is one of the first courses students take in the Master of Education Program at the University of St. Thomas. Barber taught the course online with great success before deciding to participate in the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program, which provides criteria by which a Blackboard course is judged.

“I found that the course lacked visual appeal and it also was not taking full advantage of some of the options within Blackboard,” Barber said. “So I set out to redesign it. My main goal was to make sure that there was alignment between the objectives of the course, the course content and all the course assessments. The course needs to be flexible and it needs to be tailored to the individual needs of the student.”

The article goes on to share features that Dr. Barber added to her course that brought it to the next level. You can read more here>>

Congratulations, Dr. Barber!
