FAQs about the Exemplary Course Program

Here's a quick Q&A to cover some recent inquiries I've received about the Exemplary Course Program:

Question: When is the time frame to submit courses for review?

Answer: Courses can be submitted year-round!

Question: How often are winning courses recognized and awarded?

Answer: If you have a course that is deemed "Exemplary," you will be notified right away! However, official press releases and notifications via various channels (website, Community site, social media, etc.) happen twice a year during May/June and December/January.

Question: How are winners officially recognized for their exemplary courses?

Answer: This is a BIG DEAL! You've worked hard to get your course recognized. So we create quite a buzz about our winners! Here are some of the things we do:

  • Recognition on Main Stage at BbWorld in July
  • An engraved glass award
  • Press release recognizing the winners, the course names, and the institutions where they work
  • Social media posts about the winners and their institutions
  • A blog post in this Blackboard Community
  • A notification on our website
  • Letters mailed to three main contacts at your institution that you choose, such as the Provost, Faculty Senate President, Department Dean, Faculty Training/Development Lead, etc. We want them to know how awesome you and your course are!
  • A certificate of participation and Exemplary Course Winner e-badge sent to you
  • And a few other things up our sleeves

Question: How long does it take to get my course reviewed?

Answer: Once a course is submitted for peer review, I assign three reviewers. They have up to 4 weeks to review the course based on the Exemplary Course Rubric. A course must receive at least two Exemplary scores to win.Once that happens, then the celebration begins!
